NYCU Insight: Innovative Technology for Smart Future - Three Exhibition Zones Leading Urban Development
National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) participated in the 2025 Smart City Expo by presenting a dedicated theme pavilion highlighting three core topics: Smart Buildings, Smart Campus, and Smart Healthcare. The exhibition demonstrated how innovative technologies are being applied in real-world scenarios and underscored NYCU’s pivotal role in startup incubation and smart technology advancement. The university was honored by the visit of Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao, who engaged with NYCU faculty, students, and startup teams to witness firsthand Taiwan’s progress in building smart cities.
NYCU’s central mission is to promote the practical implementation of smart technologies, with a strategic focus on technology validation, interdisciplinary applications, and industry-academia collaboration. Through field demonstrations and pilot programs in smart environments, the university showcases core technological achievements while accelerating commercialization and industrialization. NYCU also aligns closely with industry needs, strengthens technology transfer mechanisms, and expands its global influence through international partnerships. Additionally, the university strives to enhance academic visibility, attract top-tier domestic and international talent, and cultivate a comprehensive ecosystem for startup incubation and acceleration—fostering an innovation-driven, globally competitive future for smart cities.

The NYCU Theme Pavilion featured three exhibition zones, each reflecting practical applications of cutting-edge research:
-
The smart Building Zone: Developed in collaboration with university-affiliated and spin-off startups, the zone presented solutions in spatial management, security monitoring, and mobility services aimed at improving urban efficiency and convenience.
-
The smart Campus Zone: Serving as a real-world testing ground, this zone displayed innovations such as smart energy, AI-assisted learning, indoor positioning, and unmanned food services—showcasing NYCU’s achievements in campus digital transformation.
-
The smart Healthcare Zone: Focused on elderly care and personalized health management, this zone featured multiple startups integrating AI, remote monitoring, and intelligent platforms to realize the vision of next-generation healthcare.
Together, the three thematic areas illustrated NYCU’s essential role in connecting research with industry and building a sustainable, human-centered smart city.
In the field of Smart Healthcare, NYCU leverages its affiliated hospital network in partnerships with institutions such as Yilan Hospital and CHUMING Hospital to introduce telemedicine systems and AI-assisted diagnostic tools which enhance both care quality and operational efficiency. Looking ahead, the university plans to advance its “Future Hospital” initiative, integrating AI with digital health solutions to establish a new model of people-centered, technology-enabled smart healthcare and drive innovation that extends from campus to society.
