International Collaboration

The GLORIA-NYCU promotes collaboration between overseas academic institutions and international startup teams in Taiwan, leveraging existing global partnerships to expand opportunities for technological exchange and technology transfer. To deepen the effectiveness of long-term collaborations, the platform adopts three strategic approaches for development:
  • Focus on strategic research areas such as sustainability, AI, biomedical science, and cybersecurity, while strengthening joint research centers and thematic talent exchange programs.
  • Establish bilateral technology assessment and intellectual property agreement templates to streamline administrative procedures and licensing models, thereby improving collaboration efficiency.
  • Leverage domestic institutional resources and international venture capital networks to accelerate the commercialization of joint research outcomes and promote effective technology transfer, ultimately integrating them into local industrial systems for application.

Cross-Border Industry-Academic Technology Transfer

  • Corporate members can regularly access patent lists from NYCU and its partner universities, and facilitate cross-border patent portfolio licensing through a patent pool mechanism. Assist corporate members in strategic technology planning and international industry-academia collaboration, enhancing technology commercialization and market application value.
  • Based on corporate needs, the platform conducts technology selection and strategic packaging, with bilateral technical advisory teams supporting matchmaking and feasibility validation to ensure that patent assets have strong industrial applicability and commercialization potential.
  • The platform has signed Memorandum of Understanding with Kyushu University and Tohoku University in Japan. Together, they have established patent pools in two major technology areas—semiconductor manufacturing process and biomedical materials—and are jointly promoting licensing initiatives in collaboration with Japanese industry associations.

Taiwan–Japan Semiconductor Industry-Academia Collaboration

  • In building an international collaboration network, NYCU has joined global organizations such as APRU and UAiTED and established dedicated offices, including the "Taiwan-Japan Exchanges Office", the "Semiconductor International Strategic Cooperation Office", and the "Office of International Promotion and Outreach", to actively facilitate bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
  • Taiwan holds a global leadership position in chip design and advanced manufacturing, while Japan possesses critical strengths in materials supply, equipment manufacturing, and core technology development. Together, the two sides form a highly complementary partnership within the industry chain, driving forward Taiwan–Japan semiconductor collaboration.
