Patent Application Process

01

Filing an application

Please log in to the IPR Management System, add ‘New Proposal’, complete the proposal page, and upload the following documents.

Required Documents:

  1. Invention Disclosure Form ⭳ odt  (Please upload both the file and a signed, scanned copy)。 
  2. Relevant Non-Patent Literature electronic file from page 12 of the Patent Idea Disclosure Form.
  3. For NSTC projects, please attach the “approved list of expenses.” For MOEA projects or other subsidy programs, please provide the contract or other documents verifying the ownership of the results (only applicable to cases where the results belong to the University or are jointly owned by the University and other units).
  4. Intellectual Property Joint Application Form (if applicable).
  5. Self-Application Statement (if self-funded).

 

After completing the above steps, obtain the system-generated case number.

All fields are required, except for “Review Results,” “Personnel in Charge,” “Proposal Date,” “Review Date,” “R&D Costs,” and “Industry-Academia Project Results.”.

If you are a student logging in for the first time, please complete the Account Application Form ⭳ odt,,sign it, and submit the hard copy to the Intellectual Property Management and Promotion Center. New faculty members requested to contact the Center to activate their accounts.

Proceeded by the Center

The applicant is required to proactively inform the window in charge at the Center of the proposal number via phone or email.

After the Center confirms the accuracy of the System and all relevant paper documents, it will initiate the System to send “Proceeded” letters to all inventors.

Patentability Evaluation

After the proposal is accepted, our Center will commission a patent firm to conduct a patentability evaluation.

Committee for Value-Added Management of Research and Development Results

The Committee will determine whether the University would recommend and fund the patent application, as well as which national patents shall be applied.

  1. The Committee will make its decision based on the results of the previous  patentability and industrial applicability evaluation.
  2. In principle, the Committee convenes once per month and the Center will inform the applicant of the result within 5 working days after the meeting.

Entrusted Patent Application

The Center will entrust offices selected by the Labor Purchase Section of the University for patent application operations.            
The Applicant shall help the selected office to prepare the patent specifications and affairs related to the application.

Response and Acquisition of Patent

Response: After receiving the official evaluation, the Patent Office will inform the inventor and the Center.

Acquisition of Proof of Use: After the official notification is received, the patent office will inform the inventor and the Center and list the acquired patent document number as national property to regularly maintain and evaluate the patent.

Patent Maintenance

If, after a certain period of time, a patent has no possibility for technology transfer or has no one interested in taking over after the announcement, the subsidized unit shall agree to give up maintenance after a determination has been made by the committee.
